I have keyed the material in maya and then exported as fbx and opened it in fbx review. I tried with texture also, but same problem. I exported fbx from Maya LT. One of the best things about this tool is that it is very quick compared to the software Autodesk released in the past. FBX converter was the next best thing - it looks like this is what we'll be using going forward! There's a substantially lacking feature though.
If you're an animator, particularly for games, and only want to export the skeletal animation - you cannot preview that alone. Only if there is a skinned mesh in the scene will FBX review show you the skeleton drawn over the mesh. I don't understand why the skeleton cannot be displayed if that's all there is in the scene. I tried exporting a hierarchy, yet I was left with an empty FBX reviewer. The timeline was appropriate in length, though. Autodesk, Inc.

It would really be nice to have a low-cost free? The complaint I get all the time is we are a bottleneck because only we can access our drawings.
Then again that is not a perfect solution, since the annotations never make it back to Revit directly, at least not yet. Yep I should have read a little closer, you do need more. We accomplish a lot with viewer mode and comments using Bluebeam CAD on pdfs. Revit in viewer mode is much too big and the installation takes much too long to roll it out company-wide. Autodesk has a solution, or forge, but there are many companies where cloud solutions are prohibited, then is not an option.
We would like to install on our servers in the company network. But that said, while I wouldn't mind a quicker install, I wonder how much they'd really be able to "pull out" to lean down the install. Even if they take away the ability to edit and make it a true Viewer , it's my understanding that the 3D representation is re-created every time the file is opened which means all of that logic needs to stay anyway.
This forum is primarily for users. The fact that a few Autodesk personel come in to this forum to help us is a luxury even for paying customers. Autodesk owns this forum. They have a right to moderate it as they see fit. If you want to moan all over the place go to any one of the many other 3rd-party owned forums dedicated to Revit. Don't expect to spam several different threads here with your repetative whining, which may annoy other forum members, and have everyone jump to your aid and instantly solve your problem for you with a smile.
Yes, since your issue is one others have also experienced, it would be nice if Autodesk had a single solution prepared in advance that would work for everyone and that would automatically and immediately be posted to any thread containing the keywords student , license and viewer.
